About Me

My name is Kay Miller Boehr and I love buildings, especially old houses. When I was a girl scout, my favorite part of selling cookies was going door to door, just so I could get a peek inside the interesting houses near my neighborhood in Gulfport, Mississippi. When I was in high school, I found myself helplessly infuriated for the first, but not the last time, over the demolition of the Edgewater Gulf Hotel, a fabulous 1920s beach front resort.

It did not occur to me that saving buildings could be part of a career, so I chose to get a degree in Art. Later, I returned to school to study interior architecture, and ultimately became a registered architect. I was delighted to work on many old house renovations. After 16 years as a designer and architect, I had a second career as a college professor, teaching and directing an interior design program. Now that I am retired, I’m using this blog to share my love for houses, neighborhoods and cities.
